Cornerstone - What to Expect

Church Overview

Profile Age-wise, we are young. Sunday morning attendance is between 30-50 people. Dress trends toward business-casual, though you can find anything from khakis to gray suits, flip flops to pumps. People are friendly, and we do our best to make visitors feel welcome and comfortable.

Beginning On Sunday morning at 10 am we come together for an hour of what we call Connecting with God (Sunday morning Message), this is a time in which we learn about God’s Word and its application to all areas of life. Following that, we begin our Connect with Others time (Shepherding groups) around 11:30 am. These small groups focus in on the application section of the morning message.

Music The music we sing at CBC is a blend of old and new. We love the doctrinally rich hymns of the sixteenth century and we find blessing in the hymns and choruses of the twenty-first. We strongly prefer congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body singing praise to God with one voice, over performed music, which tends to spotlight the abilities of some while encouraging passivity in the rest.

Sermons Preaching at CBC is expositional, meaning that it seeks to declare the point of a particular Biblical passage. Sermons usually last between 30-45 minutes and are packed with material for reflection. On a regular basis, our sermon series alternate between the Old and New Testaments. All preaching is gospel-driven and Christ-centered.

Post Sermon and Shepherd Groups After the message we sing a hymn encapsulating the theme of the sermon and then have a brief moment of reflection and personal prayer. A typical service is finished by 11:20 am. We then break for 5 minutes to reform into our Shepherding groups. These small/ministry groups start at 11:30 and go for twenty minutes.

Post Shepherd Groups We provide a lunch to encourage fellowship and ministry. At 12:45 we regroup for a closing twenty-thirty minute message that reflects the given theme for the day.
